Many people ask what happens when a dumpster is rented and it snows. Here are a few tips, suggestions, and insights on this.
- How does the snow affect the weight of the dumpster: Typically the snow will add little to no weight. Most of the snow melts and will drain out as water from the dumpster. We also try our best to brush off any snow we can before dumping.
- Protecting the dumpster from snow: Many homeowners and contractors will lay a tarp over the dumpster before it snows, and then remove it afterward. This helps keep most of the snow out and everything dry inside.
- Delivery during bad weather and snow: At Berks-Lehigh Dumpsters we try our best to deliver even in bad weather. We’ll let you know with as much notice as possible if there would be a delivery issue or timing change. We may have to deliver a little later or even the day before if possible so you have the dumpster for the time you need while renting it.
- What should you do on the day of delivery: Yes, if possible we ask that the area be cleared of snow (as best as you can) before we get there. We do send out text messages when we are on the way to deliver to help give advanced notice of our arrival. We can deliver in some snow but we may need to place it in a different spot due to conditions.
- What should you do on the day of pickup: We ask that the front of the dumpster is at least cleared out so that we can back the truck up and attach our cable. This is especially crucial if the dumpster is on a slope.
- Will there be frozen items in the dumpster: We do try our best to keep our dumpsters clean. However sometimes due to ice buildup on the bottom of the dumpster, there may be some small items still frozen. This is not typical but it does happen depending on weather conditions.
- Mattress placement: The best way to place a mattress and box spring is at the end on the top right before pickup. This keeps it out of the weather the longest and won’t allow it to freeze to the bottom of the dumpster.
- Using bags: When possible, anything that can collect moisture should be placed in plastic garbage bags. This helps keep everything dry and prevents the items from freezing in the dumpster.
